Opening Address


Dear Friends,

I would like to wish all our readers a very happy new year. It is my proud privilege to welcome you to the 1st issue for 2009 of India Law Journal which is a global law journal with a presence in 4 countries namely India, Singapore, U.K and U.S.A.

This issue focuses on important legal issues like the experiences from the stint of a former Legal Advisor to the Republic of Nauru, stress core competencies, the UNICTRAL model law on cross-border insolvency, pharmaceutical patents and access to essential medicines, derivative transactions and possibilities if criminal liability, yellow journalism and copyright issues pertaining to the replica of the Taj Mahal being constructed in Bangladesh. This month’s interview of the month deals with various topical issues which are being currently being debated about in the legal services sector in India while the historical trials section deals with the trial of General Pinochet. Oxford University’s faculty of law features in the university review of the month section. I wish to express my sincere thanks to all those who have extended their unflinching support for the launch of India Law Journal, particularly our esteemed Board of Editors. I also wish to convey my sincere gratitude to the erudite personalities who have contributed invaluable articles for publication. Your feedback will be extremely useful.
