Thoughts from the Head of School, Professor Timothy Macklem

“King’s is to acquire a major part of Somerset House, one of London’s most beautiful and iconic buildings. As an extension to the College’s existing Strand Campus, the East Wing will provide an academic centre delivering innovative research, high quality teaching and training, as well as a new artistic hub for Londoners. The top two floors of the building will be converted into accommodation for the College’s School of Law, which has enjoyed a tradition of excellence for more than 175 years and is recognised globally as one of Europe’s premier law schools.”

“Law at King’s has strong connections with the world’s leading legal firms and we have close proximity to the city, government and legal institutions, all of which provide exciting opportunities for learning and career development. We will further extend our programme of continuing professional development, transferring the results of university research and knowledge to the legal profession.”

“The School has established academic partnerships with some of the finest Law Schools around the world, from Columbia in the United States to Renmin in China. We have a long and successful history of sending as well as receiving students, with Paris in particular, and a developing record of exchanging academic staff.”

Student reflections

“King’s has the best reputation among the graduates and the seniors of my undergraduate Symbiosis Law College, Pune, India. I was also aware of King’s high teaching standards, learning environment and reputed professors. It is amazing being part of the King’s community. After admissions the community feeling started right away and I enjoyed attending lectures with students from various countries. I felt great being absorbed by the College and its members in a foreign country. It is certainly a wonderful feeling being part of the multi-cultural community in London.”
- Sourav Kundu (India) LLM

“The LLM programme offers a flexible, stimulating environment to mingle with the well-learned professors, friendly staff and promising schoolmates from all over the world. It’s not just about law in books, but also law in life; not just about lectures, readings and exams, but an open-minded education that enables me to learn from all walks of life.”
- Yan Qi (China), LLM

“The LLM at King’s is very flexible and it adapts to your interests. For instance, I have been given the opportunity to take Criminology modules as part of my course, providing me with a wider perspective over some of my favourite legal fields. Moreover, the occasional guest lectures by practitioners and the ongoing legal events in London have made my experience as a postgraduate student a challenging and enjoyable one.”
- Catia Sofia Pereira Correia Lopes (Portugal), LLM
