Opening Address


Dear Friends,

I warmly welcome you to the 3rd issue of ILJ for 2010!

This issue focuses on important legal issues like advance rulings awaited on issues under the Competition Act, 2002, key Issues and challenges that lie before economic Crimes, Supreme Court upholding the constitutionality of National Company Law Tribunal, Intellectual Property Licensing, revision of Indian direct tax proposals, Choice of Law in International Commercial Arbitration, The development of the rule of law in China and a comparison with the Indian judicial model and an analysis of the Commercial Division of High Courts Bill, 2009. Other issues focused upon in this issue include an overview of foreign institutional investors, remunerations for executives as per the Indian Companies Act, 1956, the Naz Foundation Judgment and the ‘Tirupati laddu’ getting GI status.

The interviews of the month deals with the IDIA project which has been initiated to reach out to the disadvantaged sections in rural and small towns in India and about the newly set up LCIA’s India subsidiary and the arbitration rules launched by them in April this year. This issue also contains a special competition law update corner compiled by Luthra & Luthra Law Offices, a premier law firm in India. The special judgment section contains a copy of the trial court judgment given in the case of Ajmal Kasab in the 26/11 Mumbai attack case.

Results for our legal writing competition Licito Concurso’10 are out and are available on our website www.indialawjournal.com. ILJ received an overwhelming response from participants all over the country and thanks them for their participation. On behalf of ILJ, I also thank our panelists who spared their valuable time to judge the articles. I wish to express my sincere thanks to all those who have extended their unflinching support for the launch of India Law Journal, particularly our esteemed Board of Editors and the Editorial Team.
